I read somewhere that browsers always try to use the anonymous account when connecting to FTP, but I have used various live FileZilla FTP sites via browser and none show this behavior. It works fine with the FileZilla Client instead of the browser. I don't have any settings other than the default on the FileZilla server, I tried with 3 different versions, but it has the same behavior. This makes browsing through the directory structure a big PITA, and unacceptable from a client's perspective.Īlso, when I try to close the session and re-open in a new browser window (even with incognito), it takes ages to prompt for the username/password, because it always initially tries the anonymous account, then fails (takes a while to fail), then prompts for the user/password. If I leave it be for a few minutes, the anonymous login fails (as it should), and it reconnects again with the test user I had originally used. From the server logs, it shows that my client PC keeps trying to connect with the anonymous user. I disabled Windows Firewall on the filezilla server completely.įirst time I connect to the server I log in with one of the test accounts and everything works fine, but after around 10 seconds of browsing through the directory structure, the FTP site becomes unresponsive. I've set up two test user accounts and a simple directory structure on the FTP server. I installed Filezilla Server on a Windows 7 VM and am connecting to it via Chrome from a PC on the local network ( ftp:/ / X.X.X.X). I have just set up a simple test FTP server VM in my test lab.
